The Hens Have to Go...

...so the homeowner's association tells me. I am saddened by the fact that the homeowner's assocation in the development I live in has notified me that I must remove my hens from the premises of my home, or else they will pursue litigation (my hens, on trial :) I am truly saddened by this for several reasons- first of all, I love my hens like pets. I have four of them, (no noisy rooster) and they are the most quiet, gentle creatures ever. They each lay one egg per day, and they don't create any objectionable scents or noises! I've had my hens for for a year and a half now, residing peacefully in my backyard, despite the fact that the bylaws of the development do indeed forbid 'livestock' of any type, and I thought that I was 'getting away' with keeping my uncoventional (but not irrational) pets until one day a couple of weeks ago...here's how I was caught- my backyard gate was inadvertently left open and the chickens (who were out of their pen, freely roaming the backyard) escaped, and who of all people should discover them- the president of the homeowner's association! She asked a few other neighbors (who knew that we had the hens) and found out that they were ours. We were promptly told to remove the chickens within a specified time frame. And so, Mrs. Sweets, Ruby, Pearl, and Crazy Rae will have to go to a new home, and our family will be without their adorable backyard antics and fresh eggs. If I had four dogs, the homeowner's association could not ask me to get rid of them....what's the big deal about a few hens?

Born at home...Shelby Brandon Hatch...August 26th, 2009!

I just wanted to announce the birth of my 3rd son, Shelby Brandon Hatch! He was born at home at 6:12 am on August 26th! He's just beautiful and weighed 8lbs, 2oz and measured 21 inches long! We are so glad he's here with us- I'm glad the labor thing is over with :)

The Cottage Style Street team featured shop for this week is Catnip Studio, Too. This lovely Etsy shop is filled with the prettiest things to decorate your home and embellish your life- mosaics, gift tags, ornaments, fabric, tiles, and pretty little flower filled vases. Kathy is the very talented artist of all of the beautiful items found in her shop. I especially love her mosaic work- I wish I knew how to do that :) Her gift tags are so darling as well- they are all so unique and would make a charming addition to any gift. Cottage Style Street Team Shop of the Week!

This weeks Cottage Style Street Team Shop of the week from Etsy is one of my favorites- Cottage in the Sun! Shop owner and artist Annette creates the loveliest hearts, stars, and others shapes from salvaged ceiling tiles that date from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The tile shapes are painted such pretty colors that are vibrant yet have a vintage feel to them. Some of the shapes are in a banner arrangement and some of the shapes are a single shape with a little hook on the back for hanging. I own a couple of the pretty red hearts and I put them on my henhouse, and I must say that I think I have the cutest henhouse ever now! I just love all of Annette's pieces because there's no limit to where you can hang them for a little unexpected charm!
